Regular Season Round 11: Cayenas - Caribenas 58-65

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when third ranked Caribenas (11-6) defeated on the road second-ranked Cayenas (12-5) 65-58 on Sunday. Strangely Cayenas outrebounded Caribenas 52-38 including 19 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Waleska Perez (180-1994, college: Weatherford JC) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 16 rebounds and 8 assists. Vanessa Sanchez (-2003) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Caribenas' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The former international Yosimar Corrales (184-1990) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 20 rebounds and the former international forward Ivaney Marquez (181-1983, college: Grayson County) added 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks respectively for the hosts. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Caribenas. They maintain third place with 11-6 record behind leader Taurinas. Newly promoted Cayenas keep the second position with five games lost. Caribenas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cayenas will play again against Caribenas in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
