Regular Season Round 22: Guaros - Gaiteros 80-66

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Gaiteros (9-9) lost to second ranked Guaros (13-5) in Barquisimeto 66-80 on Thursday. Guaros dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Gaiteros' 28. The former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-1982, agency: Pro Sports) notched 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and American forward Orlando Coleman (196-1992, college: Texas Southern) supported him with 16 points and 4 assists. Four Guaros players scored in double figures. Even 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals by guard Jesus Centeno (190-1985) did not help to save the game for Gaiteros. American guard Matthew Butler (188-1995, college: UT Martin) added 9 points for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guaros have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Broncos. Loser Gaiteros keep the fifth place with nine games lost. Guaros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gaiteros will play against Brillantes (#4) in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
