Aruba's best young player: Kieran Celaire - Apr 26, 2008 (by Rolando Delabarrera)
Aruba is no basketball hotbed, but even on this tiny island talent can be found. Such was the case this past April when I visited and identified several young players who might have a future in the US. Now, potential is a hard thing to bet on ,but at least one of the players I saw made me feel confident . Keiran Celaire is a promising young player and at 17 has the time to develop into a very good player. Alejandro Duinkerk aslo has some ability.

I will write a brief scouting report on each.
Keiran Celaire: 6'7'' , long and rangy athlete, good vertical and reaction time. Has very good lateral speed for height and excellent timing. Shooting mechaninc needs work , but he is close to becoming a steady mid-range player. His athleticism dictates that he will be able to cover the 3 position in the perimeter. At this point , he needs to continue to develop strength and get into a more competitive basketball atmosphere before his level of play can be adequately predicted. There is every indicator that he will be a NCAA Division 1 level player when he graduates High School, but what level of Division one will be determined by his progress in the coming year or two.
Alejandro Duinkerk- 6'5'', strong and raw athlete type player. Alejandro still needs to work on the nuances of the game ,but during our clinics he was attentive and displayed very good muscle memory. He can be effective as a phycial player and help out a team . He will need to continue to develop his overall game to be truly effective in the states , but he seems to be a hard worker and someone that can be coached. |
