Rytas Vilnius advanced to the FIBA Intercontinental Cup final with a 77-70 victory over Club Atletico Boca Juniors in the semifinals at National Indoor Stadium in Beijing, closing the game on a decisive 27-point fourth quarter.
Boca Juniors set the early pace, outscoring Vilnius 16-11 in the first quarter and 24-22 in the second to take a 40-33 lead into halftime. Vilnius clawed back in the third quarter, trailing just 58-50 entering the fourth before erupting for 27 points in the final period to complete the comeback. Michael Devoe (196-G-1999, college: Georgia Tech) and Augustas Marciulionis (193-G-2002, college: SMC) each led Vilnius with 14 points, with Marciulionis also grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Kay Bruhnke (204-PF-2001) added 10 points off the bench, while Ricardo Lindo Jr. (203-F-2000, college: GWU) and Matas Jogela (201-SF-1998) each chipped in 9. Vilnius won the rebounding battle 45-35, including a 34-32 edge on the defensive glass. Micheal Warren (196-F/G-1995, college: CSUN) paced Boca Juniors with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Leonardo Lema (204-SF-1998) added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Lucas Faggiano (188-PG-1989, college: LIU Brooklyn) contributed 11 points, and Francisco Caffaro (216-C-2000, college: Santa Clara, agency: Octagon Europe) finished with 9 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, but Boca Juniors could not hold off Vilnius' fourth-quarter surge. |
