LDD Round 22: Leader Weber Bahia gets another victory

Leader Weber Bahia delivered the sixteenth win on Saturday night. This time they beat 11th ranked Boca Jrs. (10-10) 100-82 in Bahia Blanca. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Boca Jrs.. Weber Bahia made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 30 Boca Jrs. turnovers. Brazilian center Gabriel Novaes (208-1) fired 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Valentin Forestier (194-3) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Weber Bahia's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Agustin Facello produced 13 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for lost side. Weber Bahia (16-2) have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Boca Jrs. at the other side keeps the eleventh place with ten games lost. Weber Bahia are looking forward to face Obras (#3) in Buenos Aires in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Boca Jrs. will have a break next round.

Worth to mention a great performance of Franco Smaniotti (187-0) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds. Victor Andrade contributed with 6 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Brazilian Victor Leal (203-96) replied with 9 points and 14 rebounds for Comunicaciones. Comunicaciones' coach J Balbis rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Obras have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 14-3 record having just three points less than leader Weber Bahia. Comunicaciones at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. Obras will play against league's leader Weber Bahia in Bahia Blanca in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Comunicaciones will have a break next round.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Santiago del Estero. Local Quimsa (15-0) outscored 20th ranked Platense (2-16) 101-50 on Saturday night. Sebastian Lugo scored 23 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Quimsa's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Nestor Lopez responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Undefeated Quimsa have an impressive 15-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-0 record behind leader Weber Bahia. Loser Platense stay at the bottom place with 16 games lost. Quimsa will meet Estudiantes (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Platense will play against Olimpico (#17) in La Banda and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 22 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Instituto defeated H.Americano in Cordoba 93-78. San Martin beat Atenas at home 89-79. Olimpico lost to Ferro on the opponent's court 72-89.

There was no surprise in Rio Gallegos where 18th ranked H.Americano (3-18) was defeated by tenth ranked Instituto (11-5) 93-78 on Thursday. Juan Tulian (196-0) had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and guard Stefano Bachiochi (196-0) chipped in 25 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side forward Damian Fernandez (194-2) responded with 25 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Jose Barrios (178-96) scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. H.Americano's coach tested eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Instituto moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Ferro. Loser H.Americano keeps the eighteenth position with 18 games lost. They share it with Argentino. Instituto will meet at home Gimnasia CR (#16) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. H.Americano will play against Penarol and hope to secure a win.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Corrientes where fourteenth ranked San Martin (8-10) defeated 13th ranked Atenas (8-11) 89-79 on Friday. Franco Mendez (188-2) scored 29 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Rolando Vallejos (195-0) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. They also forced 19 Olimpico turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Juan-Martin Bello (200-99) scored 40 points (!!!) and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Ignacio Varisco (202-1) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Ferro players scored in double figures. Ferro's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games.
