Union SF - Sp.America 74-73 The most exciting game of round 15 in the La Liga Argentina took place in Santa Fe. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 9th ranked Sp.America (5-5) to first ranked Union SF (8-2) 74-73 on Wednesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Union SF outrebounded Sp.America 41-29 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for center Cristian Scaramuzzino (205-92) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Naturalized Spanish swingman Maximiliano Martin (190-90) helped adding 8 points and 9 rebounds. Union SF's coach Juan Francisco Ponce used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was naturalized Italian center Omar Canton (205-82) with 32 points and forward Emilio Stucky (198-94) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 14 rebounds. Union SF have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-2 record. Sp.America at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Echague's coach Oscar Bonell allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. This time they beat twelfth ranked Atenas (2-6) in Rio Negro 84-77. Dep Viedma players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Atenas was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a quality performance for naturalized Brazilian swingman Ayan Carvalho (196-97, college: Temple) who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Panamanian power forward Jamaal Levy (206-83, college: Wake Forest) accounted for 11 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Point guard Martin Percaz (179-93) came up with 18 points and 9 rebounds and American power forward Howard Wilkerson (198-84, college: Wofford) added 13 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Atenas in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atenas' coach Diego Lifschitz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Dep Viedma maintains first place with 6-2 record, which they share with Ameghino. Atenas lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with six games lost. They share it with Ciclista and Rocamora. Estudiantes C.'s next round opponent will be again Rocamora (#14) at home which should be another easy win for them. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Barrio Parque moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Dep Norte lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Estudiantes C. and Del Progreso. Barrio Parque will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Dep Norte will play against San Isidro in San Francisco and hope to secure a win.
