La Liga Argentina Round 30: Villa S.Martin is defeated by Ameghino

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Villa S.Martin (15-6) in Resistencia on Monday night. Hosts were defeated by seventh ranked Ameghino (10-5) 91-81. Ameghino looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Power forward Juan Luis Abeiro (200-88) had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Lautaro Fraga (185-92) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Sebastian Picton (197-92) with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ameghino maintains seventh position with 10-5 record. Villa S.Martin at the other side still keeps top place with six games lost. They share the position with Echague. Ameghino are looking forward to face Olimpico (#12) in Ceres in the next round where they are favorite. Villa S.Martin will play on the road against San Isidro (#11) in San Francisco and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Rosario. Eighth ranked Sp.America (9-9) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Estudiantes T. (11-8) 63-62 on Monday evening. Forward Emilio Stucky (198-94) notched a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and Pablo Fernandez supported him with 17 points. Even 12 points by point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-1) did not help to save the game for Estudiantes T.. Estudiantes T.'s coach Gabriel Albornoz rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sp.America moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Quilmes MP. Newly promoted Estudiantes T. keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. Sp.America will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Estudiantes T. will play at home against Colon SF (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

At the other side the best for losing team was Maximiliano Martin who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Union SF's coach Juan Francisco Ponce tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Salta Basket moved-up to second place, which they share with Estudiantes C. Loser Union SF keeps the third position with seven games lost. Salta Basket will meet at home league's second-placed Echague in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Union SF will play against Riachuelo LR and hope to secure a win.

It was a good game for Celestino Cupulutti who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Dep Norte moved-up to tenth place. Olimpico lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 13 games lost. Dep Norte's next round opponent will be higher ranked Tiro Federal (#9) in Morteros and it may be quite challenging game. Olimpico will play on the road against Ameghino in Villa Maria and hope to win that game.

In the last two games of round 30 Barrio Parque won against Tiro Federal on the opponent's court 78-73. Colon SF unfortunately lost to Riachuelo LR in a home game 67-74.

CAO Ceres - Dep Norte 83-93

12th ranked Olimpico (5-13) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Dep Norte (6-9) with the biggest margin this round 93-83. Dep Norte forced 21 Olimpico turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Olimpico helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Celestino Cupulutti (186-93, agency: BIG) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Nahuel Paciotti (184-97) contributed with 19 points, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Santiago Barrales (189-98) replied with 17 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Milton Vittar (185-91) added 14 points, 5 assists and 4 steals in the effort for Olimpico. It was a good game for center Emiliano Rossi (199-88) who led his team to a victory with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Andres Landoni (203-90) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Italian Juan Kelly (189-88) replied with 19 points and 7 rebounds and Jorge Banegas (190-93, agency: BIG) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Tiro Federal. Four Tiro Federal players scored in double figures. Barrio Parque have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 13-6 record. Tiro Federal at the other side keeps the ninth place with ten games lost. Barrio Parque's next round opponent will be Independiente (#15) in Santiago del Estero which should be an easy win for them. Tiro Federal will play on the road against Dep Norte (#10) in Armstrong and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was a great shooting night for Riachuelo LR especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage.
