La Liga Argentina Round 42: Barrio Parque lose to Colon SF

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most important game in the last round took place in Cordoba between third ranked Barrio Parque (17-9) and thirteenth ranked Colon SF (9-15) on Friday night. Barrio Parque was defeated by Colon SF in a tough game at home 65-69. Colon SF made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. It was a good game for Joaquin Rios (186) who led his team to a victory with 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Cuban center Pedro Bombino (206-0, agency: Pro Sports) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. point guard Luciano Guerra (184-97) replied with 14 points for Barrio Parque. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Colon SF moved-up to eleventh place. Barrio Parque at the other side keeps the third position with nine games lost. They share it with Villa S.Martin. Colon SF are looking forward to face higher ranked Dep Norte (#9) in Armstrong in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Barrio Parque will have a break next round.
An interesting game for Estudiantes C. (16-9) which played road game in Bahia Blanca against 3rd ranked Villa Mitre (13-6). Second ranked Estudiantes C. had an easy win 82-57. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Villa Mitre. Point guard Federico Grenni (176-92, agency: BIG) scored 33 points (!!!) to lead the charge for the winners and Cristopher Jara chipped in 22 points and 5 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was center Juan Javier Bollo (203-92) with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Villa Mitre's coach Lisandro De Tomasi gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Estudiantes C. maintains second position with 16-9 record having just three points less than leader Dep Viedma. Villa Mitre at the other side dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. Estudiantes C. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Villa Mitre will play at home against Parque Sur (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Twelfth-ranked Rocamora (9-14) was very close to win a game against sixth ranked Progreso (13-10) in General Roca on Friday. Progreso managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rocamora. Carlos Baez notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 15 points and 5 assists by Juan Martin Bello did not help to save the game for Rocamora. Progreso moved-up to fifth place. Loser Rocamora keeps the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Progreso will meet at home higher ranked Villa Mitre (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rocamora will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 42: Quilmes MP beat Rivadavia on the road 87-81. Atenas destroyed Parque Sur on its own court 85-59. Lanus unfortunately lost to Estudiantes O. in Olavarria 73-76. Independiente managed to beat Riachuelo LR at home 76-68.
The most impressive performance of 42th round was 20 points and 9 rebounds by Bruno Ingratta of Independiente.



Del Progreso - Rocamora 71-69

Twelfth-ranked Rocamora (9-14) was very close to win a game against sixth ranked Progreso (13-10) in General Roca on Friday. Progreso managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Rocamora. Paraguayan center Carlos Baez (202-92) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and point guard Alan Moreno (185-97, agency: BIG) supported him with 18 points. Even 15 points and 5 assists by forward Juan Martin Bello (200-99) did not help to save the game for Rocamora. Guard Carlos Pascal (185) added 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Progreso moved-up to fifth place. Loser Rocamora keeps the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Progreso will meet at home higher ranked Villa Mitre (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rocamora will have a break next round.

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Quilmes MP (14-11) beat on the road 14th ranked Rivadavia (4-20) 87-81 on Friday. American Tirrell Brown (198-93, college: OBU) notched 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and point guard Raul Pelorosso (178-94) supported him with 24 points. Five Quilmes MP players scored in double figures. Quilmes MP's coach Manuel Gelpi used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 29 points by power forward Estefano Simondi (201-96) did not help to save the game for Rivadavia. Forward Agustin Mas Delfino (194-97) added 20 points and 5 rebounds. Quilmes MP have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Rivadavia lost fourteenth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 20 games lost. Quilmes MP will meet at home Ciclista (#7) in the next round. Rivadavia will play against Estudiantes O. (#9) and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game when 13th ranked Parque Sur (6-16) was smashed by ninth ranked Atenas (11-12) in Carmen de Patagones 85-59 on Friday. Atenas dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Parque Sur's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Parque Sur's players. Naturalized Italian swingman Gianni Dubois (193-98) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and forward Geronimo Rausch (200-1) supported him with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Even 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists by point guard Guido Cabrera (188-0) did not help to save the game for Parque Sur. Guard Juan Fabricius (185-96) added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Atenas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Dep Norte. Parque Sur lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Atenas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Parque Sur will play against Villa Mitre (#4) in Bahia Blanca and hope to secure a win.

Estudiantes O.'s coach Marcelo Macias used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds by American forward Justin Everett (206-96, college: Humboldt St.) did not help to save the game for Lanus. His fellow American import forward Leon Gilmore III (201-95, college: SF Austin) added 20 points and 6 rebounds. Estudiantes O. have an impressive five-game winning streak. Even 17 points by point guard Joaquin Baeza (182-86) did not help to save the game for Riachuelo LR. Diego Alvarez added 11 points and 5 assists. Four Riachuelo LR players scored in double figures. Riachuelo LR's coach Fabricio Salas rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Independiente maintains fifteenth position with 6-18 record. Newly promoted Riachuelo LR keeps the fourteenth place with 18 games lost. Independiente will meet at home higher ranked San Isidro (#13) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Riachuelo LR will play against Tiro Federal and hope to secure a win.
