LDD Round 21: Quimsa defeat Instituto in the closest game of the week

The teams have now bigger motivation at this stage of Regular Season. Every game can be crucial and decide about teams' position at the end of Regular Season. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 21 in the LDD took place in Cordoba. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-best Instituto (16-7) to eleventh ranked Quimsa (11-9) 77-74 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Quimsa outrebounded Instituto 45-31 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Lucio Longoni (205-1) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Francisco Corradi (187-3) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Juan Frontera (178-2) with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Quimsa have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. Instituto at the other side dropped to the third position with seven games lost. Quimsa are looking forward to face Union (#11) in Santa Fe in the next round. Instituto will play at home against the league's leader Comunicaciones (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
LDD top team - Comunicaciones (18-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed ninth ranked Union (11-14) in Santa Fe 115-82. Swingman Matias Nunez (191-99) nailed a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and Lucas Mercadino accounted for 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Lorenzo Micheloni (195-1) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds for Union in the defeat. Union's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Comunicaciones. They maintain first place with 18-2 record. Union lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with 14 games lost. Comunicaciones will play against Instituto (#3) in Cordoba in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Union will play at home against Quimsa (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in La Rioja was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Boca Jrs (15-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Riachuelo LR (11-10). Boca Jrs did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 99-82 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Juan Guerrero who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Yustin Llerena who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Boca Jrs. They moved-up to fourth place. Riachuelo LR lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Boca Jrs will meet at home Penarol (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Riachuelo LR will play against Atenas (#12) in Cordoba and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 21: Olimpico destroyed H.Americano on the opponent's court 93-70. San Martin managed to outperform Platense in a home game 73-58. Ferro managed to beat Argentino on the road 78-64. Atenas was defeated by Quimsa on its own court 74-77. Platense was beaten by La Union in Formosa 94-81.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 22 points and 11 rebounds by Marcos Gonzalez of La Union.

Instituto - Quimsa 74-77

Rather expected game in Rio Gallegos where 20th ranked H.Americano (1-18) was crushed by seventeenth ranked Olimpico (6-15) 93-70 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Ecuadorian forward Aaron Capurro (201-0) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Guard David Perez (188-0) chipped in 19 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Braulio Soules (185-3) who recorded 38 points (!!!) and forward Damian Fernandez (194-2) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. H.Americano's coach already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Olimpico maintains seventeenth place with 6-15 record. H.Americano lost their twelfth game in a row. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Olimpico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. H.Americano will play against Obera (#5) and hope to win that game.

Very predictable result in Corrientes where third ranked San Martin (16-4) defeated 19th ranked Platense (4-18) 73-58 on Saturday. They outrebounded Platense 53-37 including 38 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Martin made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Julian Lorca (207-3) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 blocks. Franco Mendez (188-2) chipped in 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. San Martin's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Tiago Coll (-2) who recorded 19 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Juan Cox (180-0) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Platense players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for San Martin. They moved-up to second place. Platense lost their third game in a row. They keep the nineteenth position with 18 games lost. La Union dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Platense's 28. They outrebounded Platense 42-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Marcos Gonzalez (197-0) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Point guard Agustin Sigel (165-2) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. La Union's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Tiago Coll (-2) who recorded 28 points and Bruno Giorgi (-4) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively.
