LDD Round 21: Quimsa defeat Instituto in the closest game of the week- February 8, 2022

Instituto - Quimsa 74-77 The most exciting game of round 21 in the LDD took place in Cordoba. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-best Instituto (16-7) to eleventh ranked Quimsa (11-9) 77-74 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Quimsa outrebounded Instituto 45-31 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Lucio Longoni (205-1) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Francisco Corradi (187-3) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Five Quimsa players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Juan Frontera (178-2) with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Lautaro Urquiza (177-1) scored 15 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Quimsa have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. Instituto at the other side dropped to the third position with seven games lost. Quimsa are looking forward to face Union (#11) in Santa Fe in the next round. The best player for the winners was Ecuadorian forward Aaron Capurro (201-0) who scored 23 points and 7 rebounds. Guard David Perez (188-0) chipped in 19 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Braulio Soules (185-3) who recorded 38 points (!!!) and forward Damian Fernandez (194-2) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. H.Americano's coach already knew that his team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Olimpico maintains seventeenth place with 6-15 record. H.Americano lost their twelfth game in a row. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Olimpico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. They outrebounded Platense 53-37 including 38 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Martin made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was center Julian Lorca (207-3) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 blocks. Franco Mendez (188-2) chipped in 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. San Martin's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Matias Nunez (191-99) nailed a triple-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and power forward Lucas Mercadino (204-3) accounted for 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. The best player for the winners was Marcos Gonzalez (197-0) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field).
