LDD Round 22: San Martin beat Regatas in a derby game

The Regular Season in LDD is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Corrientes: San Martin (#2) and Regatas (#6). Regatas was defeated at home 77-86 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Regatas. San Martin made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Rolando Vallejos (195-0) fired 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Franco Mendez (188-2) chipped in 13 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. point guard Tobias Franchela (185-1) produced 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. San Martin have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-4 record having just two points less than leader Comunicaciones. Regatas at the other side keeps the sixth place with eight games lost. San Martin are looking forward to face Union (#12) in Santa Fe in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Regatas will play at home against Boca Jrs (#3) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cordoba. First ranked Comunicaciones faced 4th ranked Instituto. Guests from Mercedes (19-2) defeated host Instituto (16-8) 99-83. Worth to mention a great performance of Lucas Nunez (200-97) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. Francisco Llanos contributed with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. point guard Juan Frontera (178-2) replied with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Instituto. Instituto's coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Comunicaciones have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-2 record. Instituto at the other side dropped to the fifth place with eight games lost. Comunicaciones will play against La Union (#14) in Formosa in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Instituto will play at home against Riachuelo LR (#11) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Eighteenth-ranked Gimnasia CR (4-19) made lots of trouble for tenth ranked Ferro (12-12) in Comodoro Rivadavia on Thursday. The visitors from Buenos Aires managed to secure only one-point victory 72-71. However their fans expected much easier game. Santiago Mazza had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Franco Ferraria responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Ferro have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place. Loser Gimnasia CR dropped to the nineteenth position with 19 games lost. Ferro will meet bottom-ranked H.Americano (#20) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gimnasia CR will have a break next round.

Rest of the games of round 22 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Obras defeated Gimnasia in Buenos Aires 90-79. Bottom-ranked H.Americano was smashed by Obera at home 64-88. Penarol was destroyed by Boca Jrs. on the opponent's court 98-51. Union was outscored by Quimsa in a home game 53-75. Riachuelo LR recorded a loss to Atenas on the road 73-66. San Lorenzo was defeated by Olimpico on its own court 66-71.
The best stats of 22th round was 24 points by Mateo Codigoni of Olimpico.



Gimnasia - Obras 79-90

There was no surprise in Comodoro Rivadavia where 18th ranked Gimnasia CR (4-19) was defeated by seventh ranked Obras (12-7) 90-79 on Tuesday. Obras dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia CR's 26. They outrebounded Gimnasia CR 50-32 including 37 on the defensive glass. Alejo Digon (195-99) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Chilean point guard Felipe Inyaco (192-2) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side center Leandro Fogel (201-0) responded with 25 points and Valentino Ayala scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Five Obras and four Gimnasia CR players scored in double figures. Obras have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 12-7 record. Loser Gimnasia CR dropped to the nineteenth place with 19 games lost. Obras will meet Platense (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gimnasia CR will have a break next round.

No shocking result in a game in Rio Gallegos where fifth ranked Obera (16-5) smashed bottom-ranked H.Americano (1-19) 88-64 on Tuesday. Obera dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to H.Americano's 26. They outrebounded H.Americano 45-33 including a 39-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Obera looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Forward Maximiliano Acevedo (203-4) had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Franco Fragozo (198-1) chipped in 20 points during the contest. At the losing side forward Damian Fernandez (194-2) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and guard Braulio Soules (185-3) scored 18 points. H.Americano's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Obera have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place. H.Americano lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 19 lost games. Obera will meet Platense (#18) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. H.Americano will play against Ferro and hope to win that game.

Penarol will play against San Lorenzo (#17) in Almagra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
