La Liga Argentina Round 51: Dep Viedma beats GELP by two after a very close game

Ninth-ranked GELP (9-10) was very close to win a game against second ranked Dep Viedma (13-6) in Rio Negro on Tuesday. Dep Viedma managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of GELP. It was a good game for point guard Raul Pelorosso (178-1994) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Ramiro Trebucq (204-1995) contributed with 13 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Center Franco Barroso (207-1994) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for GELP. Dep Viedma have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 13-6 record behind leader Independ.O. GELP at the other side keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. Dep Viedma are looking forward to face Bahia (#14) in Bahia Blanca in the next round which should be an easy win for them. GELP will play at home against Lanus (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Concordia was also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked Zarate Basket (11-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Estudiantes C. (9-7). Zarate Basket defeated Estudiantes C. 72-58. It was a great evening for point guard Lucas Andujar (185-1996) who led his team to a victory scoring 10 points and 8 rebounds. Juan Baquero helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. Zarate Basket's coach Juan Anglese allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was forward Agustin Mas Delfino (194-1997) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds. Zarate Basket moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Racing. Estudiantes C. at the other side keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. They share it with Libertad. Zarate Basket will play against Parque Sur (#13) in Concepcion de Urug. in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Estudiantes C. will play at home against Ciclista (#3) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

It was an exceptional evening for Joaquin Gamazo who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Jose Gutierrez came up with 13 points for Villa Mitre in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Racing have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Zarate Basket. Loser Villa Mitre dropped to the seventh position with nine games lost. Racing will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Villa Mitre will play against Pergamino (#4) and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 51: Echague beat Jachal on the road 95-85. San Isidro won against Dep Norte on its own court 71-59. Bahia unfortunately lost to Del Progreso in General Roca 75-90. Salta Basket recorded a loss to Colon SF at home 81-91.
The most impressive performance of 51th round was 20 points and 10 rebounds by Gonzalo Guevara of Salta Basket.

Jachal - Echague 85-95

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifteenth ranked Echague (3-18) beat on the road 14th ranked Jachal (3-17) 95-85 on Tuesday. Strangely Jachal outrebounded Echague 50-38 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Dallas Morgan (185, college: CMU, agency: BIG) who led the winners and scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Canadian center Christian Rohlehr (206, college: SFC) accounted for 22 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Cuban power forward Marlon Miranda (200-1998) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 23 rebounds and Ismael Sarruff added 18 points and 8 assists respectively for Jachal in the defeat. Four Echague and five Jachal players scored in double figures. Echague maintains fifteenth place with 3-18 record. Newly promoted Jachal keeps the fourteenth position with 17 games lost. Echague will meet at home higher ranked Ameghino (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jachal will have a break next round.

Del Progreso looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Gustavo Maranguello (190-1983) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Point guard Valentin Burgos (184-1992) accounted for 19 points and 7 assists for the winning side. Five Del Progreso players scored in double figures.
