LDD Round 30: #1 Comunicaciones are defeated by San Martin

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Comunicaciones (27-3) in Mercedes on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked San Martin (25-7) 79-63. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Comunicaciones. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Franco Mendez (188-2002) scored 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Rolando Vallejos (195-2000) chipped in 27 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was swingman Matias Nunez (191-1999) with 31 points and 9 rebounds. San Martin maintains second position with 25-7 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Comunicaciones. Comunicaciones at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Loser Regatas keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost. Comunicaciones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Regatas will play against Argentino (#16) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 30: San Lorenzo lost to La Union on the opponent's court 92-94. Instituto outscored H.Americano in a home game 99-63. Penarol managed to beat Quimsa on the road 80-77. Riachuelo LR defeated Platense on its own court 82-78.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Regatas. They outrebounded Regatas 45-27 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Comunicaciones looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was swingman Matias Nunez (191-1999) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Power forward Santiago Bruera (206-1998, college: FAU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points, 19 rebounds and 4 blocks. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. La Union had a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Marcos Gonzalez (197-2000) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Point guard Agustin Sigel (165-2002) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Five La Union players scored in double figures. La Union's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game.
