La Liga Round 2 (Regular Season): Comunicaciones keep a leadership position

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in La Liga. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Comunicaciones defeated Riachuelo LR in Mercedes 97-79. Comunicaciones shot 60.7 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Comunicaciones especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. American point guard Keron DeShields (190-1992, college: Tennessee St., agency: Diamond Sports) scored 33 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) chipped in 23 points and 7 assists during the contest. American forward Stephen Maxwell (201-1993, college: CSUN) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Riachuelo LR will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Comunicaciones will try to continue on its current victory against Platense in Florida.
Ferro recorded a loss in Buenos Aires. Visitors were defeated by Boca 77-66. The former international point guard Jose Vildoza (191-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) notched 19 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Marcos Mata supported him with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by forward Mariano Fierro (200-1986) did not help to save the game for Ferro. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Obera crushed at home Penarol by 34 points 105-71, which is the biggest margin this round on Monday night. The best player for the winners was Agustin Barreiro who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Joaquin Valinotti produced 14 points and 5 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Obera will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Penarol will play against Regatas in Corrientes and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Platense won against San Martin on the opponent's court 82-72. Gimnasia outscored Union SF in a home game 88-63. Independ.O. lost to Quimsa on the road 78-86. Boca defeated San Lorenzo on its own court 68-56.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 20 points by Sebastian Lugo of San Lorenzo.



Boca - Ferro 77-66

Ferro recorded a loss in Buenos Aires. Visitors were defeated by Boca 77-66. Boca outrebounded Ferro 44-33 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. There was a minor upset in Corrientes where San Martin was defeated by Platense 82-72 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was the former international Eric Flor (190-1993) who scored 19 points and 7 assists. Point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-1998) chipped in 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Point guard Gaston Garcia (187-1998) produced 12 points and 7 assists and guard Agustin Perez (192-1999) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Platense will meet at home Comunicaciones in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. San Martin will have a break next round.

Obera dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Penarol's 42. They outrebounded Penarol 49-32 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Obera looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Penarol's players. The best player for the winners was the former international Agustin Barreiro (205-1999) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Norberto Stucky (198-1994) who scored 16 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). American-Italian Brandon Nazione (202-1994, college: EMU) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Gimnasia players scored in double figures. American forward Elias Cave (201, college: Minot St.) produced 18 points and swingman Martin Gomez (197-1996) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gimnasia will meet at home Comunicaciones in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Union SF will play against Platense in Florida and hope to win that game.
