LDD Round 5 (Regular Season): La Union lose to Regatas

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in LDD, but even now we can clearly see the difference between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

La Union (2-1) recorded its first loss in Formosa on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by thirteenth ranked Regatas (2-3) 104-97. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of La Union. 24 personal fouls committed by La Union helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Juan Larraza who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Benjamin Marco (186-2005) chipped in 26 points and 4 steals. Guard Franco Chir (190-2002) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts. La Union's coach Mario Martinez rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory Regatas went down to fourteenth position due to points difference. La Union at the other side dropped to the eighth place with one game lost. They share the position with Zarate. Regatas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. La Union will play on the road against Comunicaciones (#11) in Mercedes and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Buenos Aires. Leader Gimnasia CR (6-0) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Ferro (4-2) 106-103 on Monday evening. Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds. Ramiro Stehli contributed with 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners. Center Augusto Roveres (207-2003) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds for Ferro. Ferro's coach Jonathan Laino tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Undefeated Gimnasia CR have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Ferro at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. Gimnasia CR will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ferro will play at home against Quimsa and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game where host Zarate (#8) won against 4th placed Boca Jrs 87-80 on Wednesday evening. Juan Ibarra stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Nicolas Burgos responded with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Zarate maintains eighth place with 2-1 record, which they share with La Union. Boca Jrs lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Zarate will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Boca Jrs will play against Platense (#18) and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 5 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Olimpico was crushed by Platense in Florida 101-70. Comunicaciones was beaten by Argentino at home 54-61. Winless Olimpico lost to undefeated Gimnasia on the opponent's court 82-116. Union unfortunately lost to Argentino in a home game 71-79. Regatas recorded a loss to Obera on the road 71-86. Zarate was crushed by Ferro on its own court 64-104.
The best stats of 5th round was 20 points and 8 rebounds by Sahir Abdala of Zarate.

Platense - Olimpico 101-70

Everything could happen in Florida at the game between two tied teams. Both nineteenth ranked Platense and their close opponent Olimpico had identical 0-4 record. This time Platense used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from La Banda 101-70 on Thursday night. Platense dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpico's 26. They outrebounded Olimpico 58-29 including a 46-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santino Mazzucchelli stepped up with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Venezuelan point guard Anthoan Urbina (183-2005) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. Four Platense players scored in double figures. Platense's coach Alejandro Perez felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Santiago Perez (188-2002) responded with 13 points and point guard Agustin Stancampiano (182-2004) scored 14 points. Platense (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighteenth place. It was Olimpico's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Platense will meet higher ranked Boca Jrs (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Olimpico will have a break next round.

Franco Capelli stepped up and scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Augusto Gennero (188-2003) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Marcos Panozzo (195) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and guard Agustin Bruner (188-2004) scored 17 points and 9 rebounds. Argentino moved-up to fifth place. Loser Comunicaciones dropped to the tenth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Argentino will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Comunicaciones will play against La Union (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
