LDD Round 9 (Regular Season): Riachuelo de La Rioja hand first loss to Gimnasia y Esgrima Comodoro Rivadavia

The most surprising game was the first loss of Gimnasia CR (9-1) in La Rioja on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by ninth ranked Riachuelo (5-3) 100-93. It was a good game for Venezuelan forward Keiver Marcano (201-2003) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Matias Bichara contributed with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) answered with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Gimnasia. Riachuelo moved-up to sixth place. Gimnasia at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Riachuelo LR are looking forward to face Regatas (#9) in Corrientes in the next round. Gimnasia will play at home against Independ.O. (#8) and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Cordoba. First ranked Gimnasia CR (9-1) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Instituto (6-1) 79-78 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Instituto. Guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) stepped up and scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Angel Reyes chipped in 13 points and 16 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Ignacio Beltramino (179) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. Instituto's coach Mauro Salinas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gimnasia maintains first place with 9-1 record. Instituto at the other side keeps the fourth position with one game lost. Gimnasia CR will play against Independ.O. (#8) in Olivia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Instituto will play at home against La Union (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Obras. Nicolas Burgos nailed 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Juan Respaud came up with 20 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for Obras in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Boca Jrs. moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Independ.O. Loser Obras dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Comunicaciones. Boca Jrs will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Obras will play against the league's second-placed Obera (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

In the last two games of round 9 Comunicaciones Mercedes 2nd team beat San Martin Corrientes U22 team on the road 67-54. San Lorenzo de Almagra U22 team lost to Ferrocarril Oeste U22 team on its own court 60-76.
The most impressive performance of 9th round was 20 points and 5 rebounds by Augusto Roveres of Ferro.



Obras - Boca Jrs. 71-75

No shocking result in a game when twelfth ranked Comunicaciones (4-4) beat 19th ranked San Martin (1-7) in Corrientes 67-54 on Tuesday. Comunicaciones forced 20 San Martin turnovers and outrebounded them 47-36 including 34 on the defensive glass. Yosel Perez nailed a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side and forward Marcos Panozzo (195) accounted for 12 points and 12 rebounds. Four Comunicaciones players scored in double figures. Center Lorenzo Benay (203-2004) came up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Franco Alegre (176-2003) added 18 points respectively for San Martin in the defeat. Comunicaciones moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Obras. San Martin lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth position with seven games lost. Comunicaciones will meet at home higher ranked Ferro (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San Martin will play against San Lorenzo (#13) in Almagra and hope to win that game.
