LDD Round 20 of Regular Season

The most exciting game of round 20 in the LDD took place in Formosa. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 16th ranked Penarol (6-12) to fifteenth ranked La Union (7-9) 100-99 on Saturday evening. 28 personal fouls committed by Penarol helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Franco Gimenez who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 8 rebounds and Lisandro Bernabei (-2005) who added 24 points during the contest. La Union's coach Mario Martinez used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Nicolas Chiaraviglio (199-2004) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 13 rebounds. La Union moved-up to fourteenth place. Penarol at the other side keeps the sixteenth position with 12 games lost.
An interesting game took place in Santiago del Estero where higher ranked Platense (8-11) was upset on the court of fourteenth ranked Quimsa (7-8) 82-73. The winners were led by center Raymon Bastardo (202-2002) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points, 20 rebounds and 6 blocks and Diego Collomb supported him with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Quimsa's coach Marcelo Zanni allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds by Santino Mazzucchelli did not help to save the game for Platense. Quimsa have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to thirteenth place. Platense at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 11 games lost. They share it with San Lorenzo.
20th ranked San Martin (1-17) was outscored at home by sixteenth ranked Penarol (6-12) with the biggest margin this round 87-67 on Thursday night. The best player for the winners was Nicolas Chiaraviglio who scored 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Geronimo Ramallo produced 29 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. San Martin's coach Diego Blanco rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Penarol maintains sixteenth position with 6-12 record. San Martin lost seventeenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 17 lost games.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 20: Regatas lost to Quimsa on the opponent's court 59-76. La Union unfortunately lost to Instituto in a home game 77-92. Obras managed to beat Obera on the road 83-70. Olimpico was defeated by Argentino on its own court 54-59. Instituto beat San Martin in Cordoba 67-51. Comunicaciones won against Regatas at home 85-78.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points by Mateo Rearte of Comunicaciones.



Quimsa - Regatas 76-59

Rather expected game in Santiago del Estero where 17th ranked Regatas (6-13) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Quimsa (7-8) 76-59 on Wednesday. The best player for the winners was center Raymon Bastardo (202-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 17 rebounds. Swingman Diego Collomb (192-2004) chipped in 18 points and 9 rebounds. Quimsa's coach Marcelo Zanni used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Juan Larraza produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and forward Francisco Ferraro (196-2004) added 17 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Quimsa have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Regatas keeps the seventeenth position with 13 games lost.

Very predictable result in Formosa where fifth ranked Instituto (13-4) defeated 15th ranked La Union (7-9) 92-77 on Thursday. The best player for the winners was Kadir Pomare who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Fausto Moussa (198-2004) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Instituto players scored in double figures. Franco Gimenez produced 26 points and 4 steals and Lisandro Bernabei (-2005) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. La Union's coach Mario Martinez rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Instituto have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Loser La Union dropped to the fourteenth position with nine games lost.

Obera - Obras 70-83

There was a minor upset when 6th ranked Obera (12-7) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Obras (12-7) 83-70 on Friday. Obras dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Obera's 20. They outrebounded Obera 48-28 including a 38-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Victor Perez (187-2005) who scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Power forward Valentino Finetti (204-2005) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Kelvin Ramirez (204-2002) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds and Paraguayan power forward Hugo Caballero (190-2004) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Obera's coach Lucas Gornatti tested eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Obras have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Riachuelo and Obera.
