LDD Round 23 (Regular Season): Obras edge Boca Jrs. by two points

The most exciting game of round 23 in the LDD took place in Buenos Aires. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd placed Boca Jrs (15-6) to seventh ranked Obras (13-7) 75-73 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Boca Jrs. 24 personal fouls committed by Boca Jrs. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Victor Perez (187-2005) who scored 20 points and 7 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Swingman Lautaro Barrios (195-2004) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Tiziano Prome (201-2005) produced 27 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Obras have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 13-7 record. Boca Jrs. at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. They share it with Independ.O.. Obras are looking forward to face San Lorenzo (#12) in Almagra in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Boca Jrs. will play at home against Obera (#9) and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Olimpico managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of seven consecutive losses. This time they edged twelfth-ranked San Lorenzo in La Banda 66-63. Guard Ignacio Gonzalez (187-2003) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points. Facundo Rodriguez contributed with 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Olimpico's coach Guillermo Aliende allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Eduardo Santamaria answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for San Lorenzo. Olimpico (2-17) moved-up to nineteenth place. San Lorenzo at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Argentino. Olimpico will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Lorenzo will play at home against Obras (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Leader Gimnasia CR delivered the seventeenth victory on Wednesday night. This time they beat 15th ranked La Union (7-11) 94-80 in Comodoro Rivadavia. It was a great evening for Angel Reyes who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks. Gimnasia CR's coach Gustavo Sapochnik used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Franco Chir responded with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Gimnasia maintains first place with 17-2 record. Loser La Union keeps the fifteenth position with 11 games lost. Gimnasia will meet at home Argentino (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. La Union will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 23 Zarate was crushed by Riachuelo in La Rioja 102-81. Regatas was smashed by Union at home 55-84.

Riachuelo LR - Zarate 102-81

There was no surprise in La Rioja where 18th ranked Zarate (5-16) was crushed by sixth ranked Riachuelo (15-7) 102-81 on Tuesday. Riachuelo forced 22 Zarate turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for center Fabricio Diaz (205-2006) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds. Guard Jeremias Barco (-2005) helped adding 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Riachuelo LR players scored in double figures. Riachuelo LR's coach Pablo Rodrigo Pereyro felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jeronimo Massarini responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and forward Juan Ibarra (197-2004) scored 25 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Riachuelo. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ferro. Zarate lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the eighteenth position with 16 games lost. Riachuelo will meet bottom-ranked San Martin (#20) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Zarate will have a break next round.

Regatas - Union 55-84

No shocking result in a game in Corrientes where eleventh ranked Union (9-10) smashed 16th ranked Regatas (7-15) 84-55 on Saturday. Union outrebounded Regatas 41-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Estanislao Crespi who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Bautista Bianchi helped adding 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four Union players scored in double figures. Forward Francisco Ferraro (196-2004) responded with 18 points and Juan Larraza scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Regatas' coach Diego Checenelli gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Union moved-up to tenth place. Loser Regatas keeps the sixteenth position with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
