La Liga Argentina Round 51 (Regular Season): Racing defeat Pico FC in the game between Top 4 teams

An interesting game for Racing (22-10) which played road game in General Pico against 3rd placed Pico FC (20-12). Second ranked Racing managed to get a 10-point victory 73-63. It was a good game for power forward Jose Peralta (202-1995) who led his team to a victory with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Swingman Santiago Assum (194-1998) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Facundo Saez answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Pico FC. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Racing have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 22-10 record having just three points less than leader San Isidro. Pico FC at the other side keeps the third position with 12 games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Rio Gallegos. Fourth ranked Villa Mitre (19-13) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 9th ranked H.Americano (15-16) 89-88 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of H.Americano. It was a great evening for power forward Franco Pennacchiotti (205-1990) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Federico Harina helped adding 26 points. The best for the losing side was forward Gonzalo Romero (196-1997) with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Villa Mitre maintains fourth place with 19-13 record. H.Americano at the other side keeps the ninth position with 16 games lost.
Fifteenth-ranked GELP (10-21) used its home court advantage to challenge sixth ranked Dep Viedma (18-14) in La Plata on Saturday. The visitors from Rio Negro managed to secure only two-point victory 78-76. However their fans expected much easier game. It was an exceptional evening for Mariano Marina who led the winners and scored 24 points and 6 rebounds. Isidro Amendolara came up with 20 points for GELP in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Dep Viedma moved-up to fifth place. Loser GELP keeps the fifteenth position with 21 games lost.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 51: Pergamino was smashed by Ameghino on the road 70-49. Provincial won against U.Mar del Plata on its own court 80-63. Racing A. unfortunately lost to Pilar in a road game 82-90. Colon managed to beat Echague at home 91-75. U.Mar del Plata defeated La Union on the opponent's court 88-78. Villa S.Martin smashed Independiente in a home game 91-56. U.Mar del Plata was destroyed by Rocamora on the road 84-62.
The most impressive performance of 51th round was 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists by Matias Caire of Rocamora.



Ameghino - Pergamino 70-49

There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked Ameghino (15-17) crushed higher ranked Pergamino (17-15) in Villa Maria 70-49 on Saturday. Ameghino held Pergamino to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 43.9 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Pergamino 49-32 including a 40-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Abel Aristimuno (195-1991, agency: BIG) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ecuadorian Abraham Barahona (198-2003) accounted for 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Four Ameghino players scored in double figures. Swingman Federico Gobetti (192-1999) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and forward Juan Martin Bello (200-1999) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Pergamino in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ameghino moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Ciclista and Provincial. Loser Pergamino dropped to the sixth position with 15 games lost.

Rather expected game when 15th ranked U.Mar del Plata (10-22) lost to twelfth ranked Provincial (15-17) in Rosario 63-80 on Monday. Provincial outrebounded U.Mar del Plata 32-20 including 24 on the defensive glass. Provincial shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 52.0 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Gaston Gerbaudo who led the winners and scored 22 points and 4 assists. The former international swingman Adrian Boccia (195-1982) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Juan Bellozas (195-1993) came up with 19 points and 4 assists and power forward Martin Herrero (193-1997) added 9 points respectively for U.Mar del Plata in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Provincial moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Ciclista and Ameghino. There was no surprise when 12th ranked Independiente (11-17) was outleveled by fourth ranked Villa S.Martin (18-10) in Resistencia 91-56 on Thursday. Villa S.Martin dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Independiente's 28. They outrebounded Independiente 49-34 including a 39-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Villa S.Martin looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Independiente's players. It was an exceptional evening for guard Luciano Caceres (180-2001) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 5 rebounds. Bruno Galassi accounted for 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Villa S.Martin's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest.
