LDD Round 33 (Regular Season): Boca Jrs. lose to Riachuelo

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between third ranked Boca Jrs (20-9) and sixth ranked Riachuelo (19-10) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Boca Jrs was defeated by Riachuelo in a tough game in La Rioja 71-75. Riachuelo forced 19 Boca Jrs. turnovers. It was a good game for Matias Bichara who led his team to a victory with 23 points. Center Fabricio Diaz (205-2006) contributed with 15 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Martin Torriani (189-2007) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for Boca Jrs.Riachuelo moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Independ.O. Boca Jrs. at the other side keeps the third position with nine games lost. Riachuelo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Boca Jrs. will play on the road against the league's second-placed Instituto in Cordoba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
LDD top team - Gimnasia CR (24-3) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Independ.O. (19-10) in Comodoro Rivadavia 80-76. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Independ.O.. Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) stepped up and scored 26 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Martiniano Dato chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Jorge Garcia (180) with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Gimnasia CR have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 24-3 record. Independ.O. at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Riachuelo. Gimnasia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Independ.O. will play at home against the league's second-placed Instituto (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Quimsa (12-13) and Penarol (10-16), which took place in Santiago del Estero. Higher ranked Quimsa was outleveled at home by seventeenth ranked Penarol 95-75 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Quimsa. Gian Rossi nailed 40 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Raymon Bastardo came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for Quimsa in the defeat. Quimsa's coach Marcelo Zanni rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Penarol moved-up to fifteenth place. Loser Quimsa keeps the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Penarol will meet at home higher ranked Obera (#10) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Quimsa will have a break next round.

In the last two games of round 33 Argentino was beaten by La Union on the road 89-85. San Martin lost to Zarate on its own court 69-78.
The most impressive performance of 33th round was 18 points by Joaquin Diaz of Zarate.



La Union - Argentino 89-85

There was a small surprise when sixteenth ranked La Union (10-18) beat 14th ranked Argentino (11-18) in Formosa 89-85 on Saturday. La Union made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. Franco Gimenez nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side and Laureano Corominas (195-2002) accounted for 21 points and 6 rebounds. La Union's coach Mario Martinez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Santino Romegialli (204-2003) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds and guard Augusto Gennero (188-2003) added 15 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Argentino in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. La Union maintains sixteenth place with 10-18 record, which they share with Regatas. Loser Argentino keeps the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. La Union will meet at home Zarate (#18) in the next round. Argentino will have a break next round.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 19th ranked San Martin's (4-24) home loss to eighteenth ranked Zarate (9-20) in Corrientes 69-78 on Sunday. Gino Sciamanna nailed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Joaquin Diaz accounted for 18 points. Four Zarate players scored in double figures. Geronimo Ramallo came up with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Joaquin Folmer added 16 points respectively for San Martin in the defeat. San Martin's coach Diego Blanco tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Zarate. Newly promoted Zarate maintains eighteenth place with 9-20 record. Loser San Martin keeps the nineteenth position with 24 games lost.
