LDD Round 34 (Regular Season): Instituto defeat Boca Jrs. in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 34 in the LDD took place in Cordoba. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Boca Jrs (20-9) to second ranked Instituto (23-6) 72-69 in the game for the second place. Point guard Ignacio Beltramino (179) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) to lead the charge for the winners and Kadir Pomare chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Nicolas Stenta (200-2004) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Instituto maintains second position with 23-6 record behind leader Gimnasia. Boca Jrs. at the other side keeps the third place with nine games lost. Instituto are looking forward to face Ferro (#7) in Buenos Aires in the next round where they are favorite. Boca Jrs. will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Olivia. Second ranked Instituto (23-6) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Independ.O. (19-11) 74-73 on Thursday evening. Guard Fausto Moussa (198-2004) notched 26 points to lead the effort and Ignacio Beltramino supported him with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 17 points and 8 rebounds by point guard Jorge Garcia (180) did not help to save the game for Independ.O.. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Instituto maintains second position with 23-6 record behind leader Gimnasia. Independ.O. at the other side dropped to the sixth place with 11 games lost. Instituto will play against Ferro (#7) in Buenos Aires in the next round where they are favorite. Independ.O. will play at home against Regatas and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Santino Mazzucchelli produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists for lost side. Union maintains ninth position with 16-12 record. Platense lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with San Lorenzo. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 34: Zarate won against La Union on the opponent's court 81-72. Comunicaciones managed to outperform Platense in a home game 85-76. Obera managed to beat Penarol on the road 87-82.

Ninth ranked Union (16-12) beat at home 12th ranked Platense (11-17) by 14 points 76-62, which is the biggest margin this round on Monday night. Union dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Platense's 30. They outrebounded Platense 54-36 including 41 on the defensive glass. Agustin Ferrari (-2005) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Estanislao Crespi chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. There was a minor upset in Formosa where 16th ranked La Union (10-18) was defeated by eighteenth ranked Zarate (9-20) 81-72 on Tuesday. Joaquin Diaz fired 29 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Gino Sciamanna chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Four Zarate players scored in double figures. Franco Gimenez produced 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Franco Chir (190-2002) added 6 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side. La Union's coach Mario Martinez rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Zarate have a solid three-game winning streak. Obera shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Forward Maximiliano Acevedo (203-2004) fired 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Nicolas Quiroga (191-2003) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Obera players scored in double figures. Forward Nicolas Chiaraviglio (199-2004) produced 36 points (!!!) and point guard Gian Rossi (185-2005) added 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Defending champion maintains tenth position with 16-14 record. Loser Penarol keeps the fifteenth place with 17 games lost. Obera will meet Argentino (#14) in the next round.
