LDD Round 38 (Regular Season): Gimnasia gets another victory

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Leader Gimnasia CR delivered the twenty fifth win on Friday night. This time they crushed 12th ranked Penarol (13-18) 83-60 in Comodoro Rivadavia. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Penarol. Gimnasia forced 19 Penarol turnovers. The best player for the winners was Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) who scored 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Cuban swingman Marcos Chacon (194-2003, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Gimnasia CR's coach Gustavo Sapochnik felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Gian Rossi (185-2005) produced 23 points for the guests. Gimnasia CR (25-3) have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position. Penarol at the other side keeps the twelfth place with 18 games lost. They share the position with San Lorenzo. Gimnasia are looking forward to face Regatas (#17) in Corrientes in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Penarol will play on the road against Boca Jrs. (#4) in Buenos Aires and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
The game in La Rioja was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Obras (22-8) played at the court of 5th ranked Riachuelo (21-11). Obras defeated Riachuelo 87-73. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Riachuelo LR. Victor Perez (187-2005) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Lautaro Barrios contributed with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Matias Bichara replied with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Riachuelo. Obras have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 22-8 record having just one point less than leader Gimnasia. Riachuelo at the other side keeps the fifth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Independ.O.. Obras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Riachuelo will play on the road against Argentino (#15) in Junin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Sixteenth-ranked Platense (11-19) made lots of trouble for seventh ranked Ferro (21-12) in Buenos Aires on Friday. Ferro managed to secure only one-point victory 81-80. However their fans expected much easier game. Facundo Wolinsky scored 23 points to lead the charge for the winners. Mariano Goicoechea responded with 27 points (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ferro maintains seventh position with 21-12 record. Platense lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth place with 19 games lost.

Rest of the games of round 38 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Obras crushed Olimpico in Buenos Aires 101-66. Argentino was beaten by Quimsa at home 60-76. Independ.O. won against San Martin on the opponent's court 71-66. Zarate unfortunately lost to San Lorenzo in a home game 77-79.




Olimpico - Obras 66-101

There was no surprise in La Banda where 20th ranked Olimpico (3-27) was crushed by third ranked Obras (22-8) 101-66 on Wednesday. Obras dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Olimpico's 26. They outrebounded Olimpico 57-20 including a 20-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Power forward Valentino Finetti (204-2005) scored 24 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Lautaro Barrios (195-2004) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Guard Ignacio Gonzalez (187-2003) responded with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Enzo Facelli (-2003) scored 18 points. Five Obras and four Olimpico players scored in double figures. Olimpico's coach Guillermo Aliende gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Obras have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 22-8 record having just one point less than leader Gimnasia. Olimpico lost sixth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 27 lost games. Obras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Olimpico will play against Obera (#8) and hope to secure a win.

Argentino - Quimsa 60-76

No shocking result in a game in Junin where eleventh ranked Quimsa (14-15) defeated 14th ranked Argentino (12-19) 76-60 on Thursday. Quimsa outrebounded Argentino 46-33 including 35 on the defensive glass. Center Raymon Bastardo (202-2002) had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Diego Collomb (192-2004) chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Guard Augusto Gennero (188-2003) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and forward Santino Romegialli (204-2003) scored 9 points. Argentino's coach Juan Martin rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Quimsa maintains eleventh position with 14-15 record. Loser Argentino keeps the fourteenth place with 19 games lost. They share the position with La Union. Quimsa will meet Zarate (#18) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Argentino will play against Riachuelo (#6) and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game in Corrientes where 19th ranked San Martin (4-27) was defeated by sixth ranked Independ.O. (21-11) 71-66 on Thursday. Independ.O. dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to San Martin's 20. Point guard Jorge Garcia (180) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Dominican Angel Puello chipped in 14 points and 4 assists during the contest. Joaquin Folmer responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Geronimo Ramallo scored 19 points. Independ.O. moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Riachuelo. San Martin lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the nineteenth position with 27 games lost. Independ.O. will meet La Union (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. San Martin will have a break next round.

Very predictable result when thirteenth ranked San Lorenzo (13-18) edged on the road 18th ranked Zarate (9-21) 79-77 on Friday. Thiago Roca (-2004) scored 15 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Valentino Nesci chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Joaquin Diaz responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Gino Sciamanna scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. San Lorenzo moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Penarol. Newly promoted Zarate keeps the eighteenth position with 21 games lost. San Lorenzo will meet Argentino (#15) in the next round. Zarate will play against Quimsa and hope to secure a win.
