LDD Round 42 (Regular Season): Obras defeat Gimnasia

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LDD. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Gimnasia CR (29-4) in Buenos Aires on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by second ranked Obras (26-8) 91-73. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Gimnasia CR. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Obras dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia CR's 34. They outrebounded Gimnasia 41-26 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Gimnasia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Victor Perez (187-2005) who led his team to a victory with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. point guard Juan Respaud (190-2005) contributed with 14 points and 8 assists for the winners. Obras' coach Javier Ielmini used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dominican swingman Angel Reyes (201-2002) replied with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for Gimnasia. Obras have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 26-8 record having just two points less than leader Gimnasia. Gimnasia at the other side still keeps top place with four games lost. Obras are looking forward to face San Martin (#19) in Corrientes in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gimnasia will play at home against Boca Jrs. (#4) and is hoping to win this game.
LDD top team - Gimnasia CR (29-4) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat eighteenth ranked Zarate (9-24) 79-65. Point guard Martiniano Dato (188-2004) scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Jose Copesky chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Gino Sciamanna with 24 points. Gimnasia CR have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 29-4 record. Zarate lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighteenth place with 24 games lost. Gimnasia will play against Boca Jrs. (#4) in Buenos Aires in the next round. Zarate will play at home against Comunicaciones (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Quimsa (15-17) and Platense (13-21), which took place in Florida. Higher ranked Quimsa was outleveled in a road game by fifteenth ranked Platense 95-60 on Friday. Santino Mazzucchelli notched 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort. Platense's coach Alejandro Perez felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 16 points and 9 rebounds by Raymon Bastardo did not help to save the game for Quimsa. Platense moved-up to fourteenth place. Loser Quimsa keeps the eleventh position with 17 games lost. Platense will meet bottom-ranked Olimpico (#20) in the next round where they are favorite. Quimsa will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 42: Union was beaten by Riachuelo on the road 87-81. Penarol won against Argentino on its own court 88-82. San Lorenzo unfortunately lost to Obera in a road game 58-65. Penarol managed to beat Ferro at home 81-65.




Riachuelo LR - Union 87-81

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Riachuelo (24-12) beat 10th ranked Union (16-18) in La Rioja 87-81 on Thursday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Center Fabricio Diaz (205-2006) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Mateo Corso (185-2003) supported him with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Riachuelo LR's coach Pablo Rodrigo Pereyro allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists by Facundo Chamorro did not help to save the game for Union. Francisco Alonso added 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Riachuelo have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Union lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 18 games lost. Riachuelo will meet at home Obera (#8) in the next round. Union will play against Comunicaciones and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Tomas Sirochinsky allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 28 points and 16 rebounds by guard Augusto Gennero (188-2003) did not help to save the game for Argentino. Point guard Santiago Capelli (180-2005) added 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Penarol moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Argentino dropped to the fifteenth position with 23 games lost. Penarol will meet at home higher ranked Independ.O. (#6) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Argentino will have a break next round.
