Zarate Basket Independiente (La Liga) agreed terms with experienced 37-year old ex-international guard Selem Safar (191cm-1987) for new 2024-25 season. He played last season at Regatas. In 28 La Liga games in Argentina he had 5.8ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.1apg. The previous (2023) summer he played at Centauros de Portuguesa (SPB) in Venezuelan league.
He also represented Argentina at the FIBA Americas in Mexico nine years ago. Safar's team won Silver and he had almost 7 points per game.
Safar is a very experienced player. He has played in Colombia (Titanes), Uruguay (Nacional), Venezuela, and Argentina (Obras, Penarol, Boca, Quilmes, and Ciclista).
Among many awards, his team won the Colombian LPB Clausura Group A Regular Season in 2022. Safar was voted to the Latinbasket.com All-Colombian LPB Honorable Mention back in 2021. He is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Zarate.
