LDD Round 37 (Regular Season): Riachuelo edge Platense by three points

The Regular Season in LDD is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 9 rounds. The round was exceptionally exciting as three games ended with a tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 37 in the LDD took place in Florida. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 5th ranked Platense (20-11) to seventh ranked Riachuelo (19-7) 117-114 on Tuesday evening. Riachuelo outrebounded Platense 56-45 including 17 on the offensive glass. 28 personal fouls committed by Platense helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Center Fabricio Diaz (205-2006) fired a double-double by scoring 25 points and 22 rebounds for the winners. Guard Joaquin Fernandez (189-2003) chipped in 29 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Santino Mazzucchelli (196-2004) produced 30 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Platense's coach Alejandro Perez tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Riachuelo moved-up to sixth place. Platense at the other side keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. Riachuelo are looking forward to face league's second-placed Independ.O. in Olivia in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Platense will have a break next round.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Santa Fe. Second ranked Regatas faced 3rd placed Union. Guests from Corrientes (25-5) defeated host Union (21-12) 87-81. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Ignacio Ortega (205-2004) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!). Juan Larraza contributed with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Agustin Ferrari (-2005) answered with 29 points (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for Union. Regatas have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Union at the other side dropped to the fourth place with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in Formosa between La Union and Ferro. Tenth ranked La Union (13-12) got a very close home victory over 8th ranked Ferro (16-11). La Union managed to escape with a 1-point win 71-70 on Saturday evening. Thiago Gronda stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. At the losing side Camilo Rodriguez responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds. La Union maintains tenth place with 13-12 record. Ferro lost their third game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 11 games lost. La Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ferro will play against Instituto (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 37 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Zarate was crushed by Obera in a road game 108-85. Platense smashed Quimsa at home 95-49. Riachuelo lost to Argentino on the opponent's court 94-96. San Martin managed to outperform Ferro in a home game 73-72. Bottom-ranked Atenas was rolled over Obras on the road 96-67. Argentino defeated Atenas on its own court 84-68. Penarol was smashed by Obras in Buenos Aires 91-64. Zarate lost to Boca Jrs. at home 58-68. Penarol unfortunately lost to Gimnasia on the opponent's court 83-85.
The best stats of 37th round was 18 points and 6 rebounds by Mateo Framiaan of Penarol.



Obera - Zarate 108-85

There was no surprise when 17th ranked Zarate (6-20) was crushed on the road by sixth ranked Obera (19-9) 108-85 on Saturday. Obera dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Zarate's 38. They outrebounded Zarate 54-21 including a 39-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Colombian point guard Edwin Niebles (178-2005) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Spanish forward Tobias Reizner (203, college: Truman St.) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Obera's coach Lucas Gornatti felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Tomas Delia responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Gino Sciamanna scored 17 points. Five Obera and four Zarate players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Obera. Despite that victory Obera went down to seventh position due to points difference. Loser Zarate keeps the seventeenth place with 20 games lost. Obera will meet Boca Jrs. (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zarate will play against San Martin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game in Florida where fifth ranked Platense (20-11) smashed 18th ranked Quimsa (5-24) 95-49 on Sunday. Platense dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Quimsa's 28. They outrebounded Quimsa 53-39 including 16 on the offensive glass. Platense looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 4 passes made by Quimsa's players. Swingman Mariano Goicoechea (195-2004) stepped up and scored 25 points, 5 assists and 6 steals for the winners and forward Santino Mazzucchelli (196-2004) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Platense's coach Alejandro Perez felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Matias Pikaluk (188-2006) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and Sebastian Castillo scored 6 points and 11 rebounds. There was a surprise result in Corrientes where sixteenth ranked San Martin (8-20) edged higher ranked Ferro (16-11) 73-72 on Monday. Mateo Rearte (-2006) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 assists for the winners and Juan Mascaro chipped in 19 points. San Martin's coach Diego Blanco used a ten-player rotation in such tough game.
