Argentinian La Liga round 37 best performance: Edgar Merchant

Power forward Edgar Merchant (200-PF-2002) put on an amazing game in the last round for Zarate Basket Independiente, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 37.
The 22-year old player had a double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat Quimsa (#1, 24-11) 97-90. Zarate maintains the 19th position in Argentinian La Liga. Zarate is currently ranked second from the bottom. They need more victories to improve their 10-23 record. It's Merchant's second year at Zarate and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Edgar Merchant has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 8.4rpg) and averages impressive 54.8% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Arnold Louis (201-C-1990) of league's leader Quimsa Santiago del Estero. Louis had a very good evening with 28 points and 7 rebounds. Bad luck as Quimsa lost that game 90-97 to the lower-ranked Zarate (#19, 10-23). Quimsa managed to keep the same 1st spot in the standings. His team has currently 24-11 record. Louis is a newcomer at Quimsa, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Chris Clarke (196-F-1996, agency: Interperformances) of Obras Basket Buenos Aires (#4). Clarke showcased his all-around game by recording 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists in the last round. He was a key player of Obras, leading his team to a 89-73 easy win against the lower-ranked Ferro (#12, 16-18). Obras needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 21 victories and 13 lost games. Clarke has a great season in Argentina. After 32 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.8ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 10.0rpg (#1 in league).
