LDD Round 44 (Regular Season): Obras lose to Regatas in the game between Top 4 teams

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LDD. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Buenos Aires. Their close opponent host Obras (28-6) lost to second ranked Regatas (30-6) 90-86. Regatas looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Obras helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Juan Larraza who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Alan Ledesma who added 17 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Swingman Lautaro Barrios (195-2004) responded with 29 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!). Obras' coach Javier Ielmini tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Regatas have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 30-6 record behind leader Independ.O. Obras at the other side dropped to the third place with six games lost. Regatas are looking forward to face Olimpico (#17) in La Banda in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Obras will play on the road against San Lorenzo (#12) in Almagra and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Atenas managed to get the third consecutive victory. This time they won against eighteenth-ranked Gimnasia CR in Cordoba 77-64. The winners were led by Benjamin Imaz who scored that evening 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) and Jeronimo Maidana supported him with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Atenas' coach Walter Albert allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists by point guard Jose Copesky (184-2006) did not help to save the game for Gimnasia. Atenas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighteenth place, which they share with Gimnasia. Gimnasia lost fourth consecutive game. Atenas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gimnasia will play on the road against Instituto (#7) in Cordoba and hopes to get back on the winning track.
LDD top team - Independ.O. (31-6) managed to deliver another win on Monday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked San Lorenzo (15-19) in Almagra 74-65. The best player for the winners was Jorge Garcia who scored 18 points and 8 rebounds. Independ.O.'s coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Thiago Roca produced 21 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Independ.O. maintains first position with 31-6 record. Loser San Lorenzo dropped to the twelfth place with 19 games lost. Independ.O. will meet at home Obera (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. San Lorenzo will play against Obras (#3) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 44: Penarol was destroyed by Obera on the opponent's court 116-53. Zarate unfortunately lost to Regatas in a home game 89-96. Instituto managed to beat Olimpico on the road 83-65. La Union was crushed by Boca Jrs. on its own court 85-107. Independ.O. smashed Penarol in Olivia 101-68. Bottom-ranked Quimsa was destroyed by Instituto at home 60-83. Boca Jrs. outscored San Martin on the opponent's court 81-50. Penarol recorded a loss to Zarate in a home game 65-73. Gimnasia was crushed by Riachuelo on the road 99-60. Regatas beat Boca Jrs. on its own court 86-82.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 36 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 7 assists by Tiago Drocezesky of Boca Jrs..



Obera - Penarol 116-53

Very expected game when 14th ranked Penarol (13-24) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Obera (22-10) 116-53 on Sunday. Obera dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Penarol's 22. Obera forced 20 Penarol turnovers and outrebounded them 44-23 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Obera looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Penarol's players. The best player for the winners was Colombian point guard Edwin Niebles (178-2005) who scored 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). Spanish forward Tobias Reizner (203, college: Truman St.) chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Four Obera players scored in double figures. Obera's coach Lucas Gornatti felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
