La Liga Proximo Round 20 (Regular Season): No surprise as #1 Instituto defeat Racing Ch.

LDB top team - Instituto (14-4) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat twelfth ranked Racing Ch. (5-8) in Cordoba 67-59. Instituto forced 24 Racing Ch. turnovers. Worth to mention a quality performance of who helped to win the game recording 13 points and 8 rebounds and who added 12 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Instituto's coach Ignacio Giambartolomei used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tomas Delia responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Instituto have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-4 record. Racing Ch. at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with eight games lost. Fourteenth-ranked Penarol (5-11) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Independ.O. (11-3) in Mar del Plata. The visitors from Olivia managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Penarol. The winners were led by Ecuadorian forward Carlos Hurtado (212-2006) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds and Carlos Diez supported him with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Even 20 points and 8 rebounds by point guard Gian Rossi (185-2005) did not help to save the game for Penarol. Independ.O. have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 11-3 record. Penarol at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
19th ranked Olimpico (1-12) was outscored at home by seventh ranked Platense (9-5) with the biggest margin this round 112-69 on Friday night. The best player for the winners was Joaquin Goncalves who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Jose Caro produced 13 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Olimpico's coach Jose Maria Gerez gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Platense have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Ferro. Olimpico lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Platense will meet league's second-placed Obras in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Olimpico will play against Quimsa (#15) in Santiago del Estero and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 20: Obras won against Obera on the opponent's court 84-79. Atenas unfortunately lost to Racing Ch. in a home game 65-79. Platense managed to beat Quimsa on the road 82-67. Union defeated Argentino on its own court 93-82.

Obera - Obras 79-84

Very expected game when 10th ranked Obera (6-8) was defeated at home by third ranked Obras (12-2) 84-79 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was power forward Valentino Finetti (204-2005) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Joaquin Celiz chipped in 21 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Albano Costa (192-2006) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and swingman Drazen Sinigoj (192-2005) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Four Obera players scored in double figures. Obras moved-up to second place. Loser Obera keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Obras will meet San Lorenzo (#8) in the next round where they are favorite. Obera will have a break next round.

Union's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Santino Mazzucchelli (196-2004) produced 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists and swingman Mariano Goicoechea (195-2004) added 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Union moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated Argentino. Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Argentino will play against Racing Ch.
