La Liga Round 28 (Regular Season): La Union keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked La Union as it allowed them to take a leadership position. La Union defeated 18th ranked Racing Ch. in Formosa 90-78. La Union made 18-of-19 free shots (94.7 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan center Windi Graterol (204-1986) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Mariano Marina (-1999) who added 16 points and 4 assists during the contest. La Union's coach Guillermo Narvarte used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international guard Nicolas Romano (200-1987) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds. La Union have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Racing Ch. lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighteenth place with 15 games lost. Racing Ch. will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. La Union will try to continue on its current victory against seventeenth ranked San Lorenzo in Almagro.
The game in Comodoro Rivadavia was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Ferro (11-5) played at the court of eighth ranked Gimnasia (11-8). Gimnasia defeated Ferro 88-75. The winners were led by Carlos Rivero (207-2003) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds and Martiniano Dato supported him with 16 points. Gimnasia's coach Pablo Favarel allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 9 points and 9 rebounds by center Eduardo Vasirani (206-1991) did not help to save the game for Ferro. Gimnasia have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 11-8 record. Ferro at the other side keeps the sixth place with five games lost. Gimnasia will play against Boca Juniors (#14) in Buenos Aires in the next round where they are favorite. Ferro will play at home against Platense (#15) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Sixteenth-ranked San Lorenzo (6-12) gave a tough game to eleventh ranked Union (10-9) in Santa Fe on Monday. Union managed to secure only three-point victory 96-93. However their fans expected much easier game. Emiliano Basabe fired 19 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners. Union SF's coach Maximiliano Seigorman used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Facundo Rutenberg produced 21 points (made all of his eight free throws) for lost side. Union have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to tenth place. Loser San Lorenzo dropped to the seventeenth position with 12 games lost. Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. San Lorenzo will play against the league's leader La Union (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 28: San Martin lost to Olimpico on the opponent's court 64-77. Atenas outscored Argentino in a home game 109-71. San Martin managed to beat Quimsa on the road 79-64.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 13 points and 15 rebounds by Leonardo Lema of Quimsa.



Gimnasia - Ferro 88-75

Atenas dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Argentino's 18. They outrebounded Argentino 42-25 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Carlos Buendia (177-1995) fired 23 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Danjel Purifoy (201-1995, college: Auburn, agency: Helping Ballers) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. Four Atenas players scored in double figures. American forward Dana Tate Jr (201-1999, college: Norfolk St., agency: WP Sports Agency) produced 17 points and 8 rebounds and center Fernando Podesta (205-1992) added 17 points respectively for lost side.
