The most important game in the last round took place in Buenos Aires between third ranked La Union (13-6) and seventh ranked Lanus (12-8) on Thursday night. La Union was defeated by Lanus on the road 71-88. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of La Union. Lanus forced 20 La Union turnovers. American swingman Michael Henry (198-1995, college: Buffalo St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The other American import guard Robert Whitfield (190-1997, college: UMKC) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Bolivian forward Gonzalo Romero (196-1997) replied with 17 points and 6 rebounds for La Union. Lanus moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Quilmes and Salta Basket. La Union at the other side keeps the third position with six games lost. They share it with Barrio Parque. Lanus is looking forward to face higher ranked C.Entrerriano (#3) in Gualeguaychu in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. La Union will play at home against Pico FC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Naturalized Italian center Damian Tintorelli (205-1981) responded with 8 points and 11 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Provincial have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-4 record. Ciclista lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth place with 14 games lost. Provincial will play against Villa Mitre (#11) in Bahia Blanca in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ciclista will play at home against Dep Viedma and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Salta between Caroya and Salta Basket. Ninth ranked Caroya (10-10) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Salta Basket (12-8). Caroya managed to escape with a 2-point win 76-74 on Saturday evening. Maurice Walton notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) to lead the effort. Even 17 points by Wilfredo Alvarez did not help to save the game for Salta Basket. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Caroya maintains ninth position with 10-10 record. Loser Salta Basket dropped to the fifth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Quilmes and Lanus. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 38: Rocamora was beaten by C.Entrerriano on the road 93-77. Santa Paula destroyed Estudiantes T. on its own court 104-65. Caroya unfortunately lost to Jujuy in a road game 74-87. GELP managed to beat Racing A. at home 94-89. Pergamino was defeated by El Talar on the opponent's court 89-79. San Isidro beat Suardi in a home game 90-74.



Lanus - La Union 88-71

Provincial dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Ciclista's 30 and made 17-of-18 charity shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Provincial had a 29-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Provincial especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.7 percentage. Swingman Federico Gobetti (192-1999) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) to lead the charge for the winners and Uruguayan center Matias Acosta (200-1999) chipped in 17 points during the contest.
