La Liga Proximo Round 30 (Regular Season): Bottom-ranked Olimpico wins against Gimnasia

Bottom-ranked Olimpico managed to get the second consecutive victory on Tuesday night. This time they outleveled tenth-ranked Gimnasia CR in La Banda 88-66. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 22-point difference suggests that Olimpico is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia CR's 38. Olimpico looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for guard Jeremias Barco (-2005) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Maximo Martinez contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Olimpico's coach Jose Maria Gerez felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ciro Melo replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds for Gimnasia. Olimpico maintains nineteenth position with 3-20 record. Gimnasia at the other side dropped to the eleventh place with 13 games lost. Olimpico are looking forward to face higher ranked Platense (#7) in Florida in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Gimnasia will play at home against the league's leader Obras (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
The game in Buenos Aires was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked Independ.O. (14-8) played at the court of seventh ranked Ferro (14-8). Ferro did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 84-65. Tobias Tamagusuku scored 17 points, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Camilo Jara chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Ferro's coach Juan Di Gilio allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Elias Garcia with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Ferro moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Independ.O. Ferro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Independ.O. will play at home against Union (#14) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 30: Atenas was beaten by San Lorenzo on the road 78-67. Ferro won against Atenas on its own court 91-80. Boca Jrs. managed to outperform Argentino in Buenos Aires 69-58. Obera recorded a loss to Regatas at home 65-80.

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked San Lorenzo (11-10) beat 17th ranked Atenas (7-17) in Almagra 78-67 on Thursday. San Lorenzo outrebounded Atenas 47-32 including 19 on the offensive glass. Joaquin Actis notched 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and Ivan Villarroel supported him with 21 points. San Lorenzo's coach Juan Veira let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 18 points by Tiago Tomatis did not help to save the game for Atenas. Facundo Valfre added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Four Atenas players scored in double figures. San Lorenzo maintains eighth position with 11-10 record. Loser Atenas keeps the seventeenth place with 17 games lost. San Lorenzo will meet league's leader Obras in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Atenas will have a break next round.
