La Liga Argentina Round 47 (Regular Season): Barrio Parque lose to Comunicaciones

The Regular Season in La Liga Argentina is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 11 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise took place in Mercedes where host Comunicaciones (10-12) beat league's leader Barrio Parque (18-8) 96-81 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Barrio Parque. Comunicaciones dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Barrio Parque's 30. The best player for the winners was Spanish-Venezuelan swingman Franger Pirela (187-2002) who scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Center Raymon Bastardo (202-2002) chipped in 18 points (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). point guard Gaston Bertona (176-2001) produced 20 points for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Comunicaciones moved-up to eleventh place. Barrio Parque at the other side still keeps top position with eight games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Provincial who have the same record. Barrio Parque will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Comunicaciones will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Caroya in Colonia Caroya.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Rosario. First ranked Provincial faced 4th placed GELP. Host Provincial (19-6) defeated guests from La Plata (16-9) 91-82. Uruguayan center Matias Acosta (200-1999) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Abraham Barahona contributed with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Center Franco Barroso (207-1994) answered with 10 points and 9 rebounds for GELP. GELP's coach Fabian Renda rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Provincial maintains first place with 19-6 record, which they share with C.Entrerriano. GELP at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. They share it with Quilmes. Provincial will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. GELP will play on the road against Pergamino (#16) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

It was a great evening for Johu Castillo who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Gonzalo Romero responded with 13 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. C.Entrerriano have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Provincial. Loser La Union keeps the third place with seven games lost. C.Entrerriano will meet U.Mar del Plata (#12) on the road in the next round which should be another easy win for them. La Union will have a break next round.

Other games of round 47 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Suardi defeated Santa Paula in a road game 105-101. Rivadavia was beaten by Colon at home 67-69. Estudiantes T. lost to Riojana on the opponent's court 91-95. Lanus managed to outperform Ciclista in a home game 79-72. Rocamora was rolled over U.Mar del Plata on the road 83-63.
The best stats of 47th round was 14 points and 14 rebounds by Juan Bellozas of U.Mar del Plata.



Provincial - GELP 91-82

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Rosario. First ranked Provincial faced 4th placed GELP. Host Provincial (19-6) defeated guests from La Plata (16-9) 91-82. Provincial outrebounded GELP 40-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. GELP was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Uruguayan center Matias Acosta (200-1999) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Ecuadorian Abraham Barahona (195-2003) contributed with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Center Franco Barroso (207-1994) answered with 10 points and 9 rebounds and Cuban Joan Gutierrez (192-2003) added 10 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for GELP. Santa Paula - Suardi 101-105

There was a minor upset in Galvez where 4th placed Santa Paula (15-11) was defeated by seventh ranked Suardi (15-11) 105-101 on Thursday. Suardi dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Paula's 44. It was a great evening for Pablo Martinez (197-1982) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. Horacio Rigada helped adding 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Suardi players scored in double figures. Jeronimo Diaz (185-2002) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists and Ecuadorian forward Joseph Caicedo (196-2004) scored 30 points and 6 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Suardi. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Santa Paula. Santa Paula lost their third game in a row. Suardi will meet at home Riojana (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santa Paula will have a break next round.

There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Colon (7-16) edged on the road higher ranked Rivadavia (10-17) 69-67 on Thursday. It was a great evening for Hans Feder who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Federico Gonzalez (183-1988) helped adding 14 points and 5 assists. American power forward Zondrick Garrett (203-2002, college: UWF, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks and guard Mateo Perez (189-2002, agency: BIG) scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Rivadavia's coach Sebastian Saborido tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Colon maintains sixteenth place with 7-16 record. Rivadavia lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 17 games lost. They share it with U.Mar del Plata. Colon will meet Las Heras (#17) on the road in the next round. Rivadavia will have a break next round.

Riojana made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for power forward Juan Luis Abeiro (200-1988) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). Forward Juan Rodriguez (196-2002) helped adding 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Juan Bollo (203-1992) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Elias Cave (201, college: Minot St.) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Riojana and five Estudiantes T. players scored in double figures. Estudiantes T.'s coach Fabrizio Esposito tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Riojana. Despite that victory Riojana went down to thirteenth position due to points difference. Loser Estudiantes T. keeps the ninth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Villa S.Martin. Riojana will meet higher ranked Suardi (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Estudiantes T. will play against the league's leader Amancay (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
