La Liga Round 42 (Regular Season): Racing Ch. defeat Quimsa

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Quimsa (20-11) in Chivilcoy on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by seventeenth ranked Racing Ch. (11-20) 82-73. It ended at the same time the ten-game winning streak of Quimsa. 24 personal fouls committed by Quimsa helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for point guard Joaquin Valinotti (185-1998) who led his team to a victory with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Norberto Stucky contributed with 12 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international Leonardo Lema (203-1998) replied with 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for Quimsa. Quimsa's coach Leandro Ramella rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Racing Ch. maintains seventeenth position with 11-20 record. Quimsa at the other side still keeps top place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Gimnasia. Racing Ch. are looking forward to face higher ranked San Martin (#12) in Corrientes in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Quimsa will have a break next round.

The game in Cordoba was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Independ.O. (18-11) played at the court of seventh ranked Instituto (18-13). Instituto defeated Independ.O. 89-78 on Monday. Tomas Monacchi notched a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 19 points and 7 rebounds by Enzo Filippetti did not help to save the game for Independ.O.. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Instituto have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Independ.O. lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. Instituto's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Cordoba to the arena Atenas.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 42: Platense was beaten by Gimnasia on the road 81-78. Obras won against Atenas on its own court 73-67. Olimpico managed to outperform Union in La Banda 101-83. San Martin managed to beat Ferro at home 71-65. Ferro was defeated by Regatas on the opponent's court 77-70.

However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gimnasia made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Ecuadorian center Bryan Carabali (214-1999) notched a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the effort and Cuban swingman Marcos Chacon (194-2003) supported him with 18 points. Four Gimnasia players scored in double figures. Gimnasia's coach Pablo Favarel used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 27 points and 5 rebounds by swingman Julian Morales (195-1995) did not help to save the game for Platense. Center Nicolas Burgos (207-2003) added 12 points and 9 rebounds. Gimnasia have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They used an opportunity after Quimsa lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Even 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) by Felipe Araujo did not help to save the game for Union. Daniel Hure (200-1985) added 13 points.
