La Liga Argentina Round 57 (Regular Season): Amancay take over a leadership position

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in La Liga Argentina. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Amancay as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Amancay defeated 15th ranked Hindu in La Rioja 83-77. Amancay outrebounded Hindu 42-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American center Jonah Underwood (206-1996, college: HIU) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Fabricio Peralta contributed with 18 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Carlos Buemo (194-1996) answered with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Hindu. Hindu's coach Daniel Beltramo rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with C.Entrerriano and San Isidro. Hindu lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourteenth place with 20 games lost.
Another interesting game for Jujuy (17-14) which played in Resistencia against 7th ranked Villa S.Martin (16-15). Eighth ranked Jujuy won 95-87. Guard Ramiro Stehli (190-2002) stepped up and scored 38 points (!!!) and 5 assists (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field) for the winners and Santiago Ibarra chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. Jujuy's coach Guillermo Tasso allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Facundo Fernandez with 19 points and 5 assists. Jujuy moved-up to seventh place. Villa S.Martin at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 15 games lost. Jujuy will play against Comunicaciones (#9) in Mercedes in the next round. Villa S.Martin will have a break next round.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked C.Entrerriano (22-9) against sixth ranked Pico FC (19-11) on Monday night. Visiting C.Entrerriano was defeated by Pico FC in General Pico 82-71. Leonardo Mainoldi nailed 18 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side. Nicolas Reynoso came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for C.Entrerriano in the defeat. C.Entrerriano's coach tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Pico FC moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Quilmes and Lanus. Loser C.Entrerriano still keeps top position with nine games lost. They share it with San Isidro and Amancay. Pico FC will meet at home higher ranked La Union (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. C.Entrerriano will play against Ciclista and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 57: Centenario VT was beaten by Dep Viedma on the road 92-85. La Union won against Ciclista on its own court 88-82. Las Heras unfortunately lost to Santa Paula in Galvez 82-90. Caroya recorded a loss to Barrio Parque at home 83-89. Ciclista was defeated by Rocamora on the opponent's court 81-71. Dep Norte smashed Pergamino in a home game 82-58. Hindu won against Riojana on the road 96-93.
The most impressive performance of 57th round was 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists by Juan Luis Abeiro of Riojana.



Dep Viedma - Centenario VT 92-85

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Dep Viedma (18-13) beat 10th ranked Centenario VT (15-14) in Rio Negro 92-85 on Monday. Dep Viedma forced 19 Centenario VT turnovers. Point guard Nicolas Paletta (179-1987) nailed 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and guard Luciano Caceres (180-2001) accounted for 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Lucio Castellani (196-1994) came up with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and Matias Aristu (194-1995) added 20 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Centenario VT in the defeat. Four Dep Viedma and five Centenario VT players scored in double figures. Dep Viedma maintains eighth place with 18-13 record. Loser Centenario VT dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Comunicaciones and Estudiantes T.. Dep Viedma will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Centenario VT will play against La Union (#3) and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game when 14th ranked Ciclista (10-21) lost to third ranked La Union (20-9) in Colon 82-88 on Monday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. La Union looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when La Union made 7 blocks. Naturalized Italian point guard Alvaro Merlo (184-1995) nailed 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and guard Matias Caire (188-1999) accounted for 22 points and 4 assists. La Union's coach Martin Guastavino used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Naturalized Italian center Damian Tintorelli (205-1981) came up with 22 points and 6 rebounds and Ecuadorian Erick Mecias (194-2003) added 21 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Ciclista in the defeat. Five La Union and four Ciclista players scored in double figures. La Union maintains third place with 20-9 record having 2 victories less than leader Provincial. Ciclista lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 21 games lost. La Union will meet Centenario VT (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ciclista will play against the league's second-placed C.Entrerriano (#2) in Gualeguaychu and hope to secure a win.

Las Heras' coach Agustin Pujol let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Santa Paula have a solid series of three victories in a row.
