La Liga Proximo Round 41 (Regular Season): Bottom-ranked Olimpico wins against Quimsa

The games at this stage are more interesting as they can be crucial for the final standings in Regular Season. Despite we already know who is stronger and who is weaker, there may be still last minute surprises and upsets. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bottom-ranked Olimpico managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the series of seven consecutive losses on Saturday night. This time they won against eleventh-ranked Quimsa in La Banda 80-75. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Quimsa. Strangely Quimsa outrebounded Olimpico 46-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. Guard Jeremias Barco (-2005) orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Lautaro Cerioni contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Olimpico's coach Jose Maria Gerez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Patricio Cogliati (203-2006) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 18 rebounds for Quimsa. Olimpico maintains nineteenth place with 4-27 record. Quimsa at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Raniero Mainoldi stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and Carlos Diez chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. Independ.O.'s coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Martin Chapero (207-2007) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Independ.O. maintains seventh place with 16-14 record. Penarol at the other side keeps the twelfth position with 18 games lost. Independ.O. will play against league's leader Instituto in Cordoba in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Penarol will play on the road against Atenas (#15) in Cordoba and hopes to get back on the winning track.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 41: Boca Jrs. was beaten by La Union on the road 90-82. Argentino lost to San Martin on its own court 70-78. Gimnasia unfortunately lost to Obera in a road game 67-83.
The most impressive performance of 41th round was 31 points and 9 rebounds by Albano Costa of Obera.



Independ.O. - Penarol 107-64

The game between seventh ranked Independ.O. (16-14) and 12th ranked Penarol (12-18) in Olivia ended with biggest points difference. Independ.O. outscored guests from Mar del Plata 107-64. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Penarol. Independ.O. made 19-of-20 charity shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 27 Penarol turnovers. Independ.O. players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Penarol's players. Raniero Mainoldi stepped up and scored 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and Carlos Diez chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds. No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked La Union (24-8) beat 18th ranked Boca Jrs (7-21) in Formosa 90-82. Franco Gimenez (190) stepped up and scored 25 points and 4 assists for the winners and Emanuel Rodriguez chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Lucio Urquiza responded with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals and Octavio Donzino produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Five La Union and four Boca Jrs. players scored in double figures. La Union have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Boca Jrs. lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 21 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Everything could happen in Junin at the game between two tied teams. Both sixteenth ranked San Martin and 17th ranked Argentino had identical 9-21 record. But Argentino was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Corrientes 78-70. San Martin outrebounded Argentino 42-24 including a 35-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. San Martin brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Dominican center Leonel Nunez (206-2004) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Valentino Saucedo chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. Four San Martin players scored in double figures. Chilean Dylan Perez (191-2005) responded with 16 points and Francisco Suarez scored 14 points. Argentino's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. San Martin maintains sixteenth place with 10-21 record. Argentino lost third consecutive game. Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Obera (16-15) won against at home 12th ranked Gimnasia CR (12-19) 83-67. Guard Albano Costa (192-2006) stepped up and scored 31 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners and Colombian point guard Edwin Niebles (178-2005) chipped in 16 points. Four Obera players scored in double figures. Obera's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Venezuelan center Jesus Centeno (205-2006) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and Ciro Melo produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Obera have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place. Gimnasia lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 19 games lost. Obera will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gimnasia will play on the road against San Lorenzo (#9) in Almagra and hopes to get back on the winning track.
