Cheetahs win National Basketball Title - May 10, 2011 Both the men and ladies National Basketball Titles will stay in the capital New Providence until the 2012 championships after the Commonwealth Bank Giants won the men's title and the Four J's Cheetahs won the women's title in the round robin tournament hosted by The Bahamas Basketball Federation on the weekend at the Kendal Isaacs Gym. The Giants found the competition stiff versus the Grand Bahama Champions who actually defeated them in their opening game on Friday night 81-80 on a buzzer beating three point shot by Clayton 'Smiley' Miller. Grand Bahama defeated Harbour Island 82-56 led by Miller with 21 and Harbour Island got 13 points from Alvin Bullard. In the ladies division, the Cheetahs accomplished a story book ending to their 2011 season. After finally overcoming the Bomber George Angels for the New Providence Women's Basketball Association title, they advanced to the National Championship final where they held off a talented but inexperienced team from Harbour Island with 68-53 win. Cheetahs point guard Latyoya 'Lil Ting' Thompson led all scorers with 30 points. Isis Wilson and Dovester Bullard finished with 11 points each for Briland. In round robin play the Cheetahs had beaten Harbouru Island 51-41, led by forward Terrana Pyfrom (80) and centre Linda Pierre (82) with 13 points each. Wilson led Harbour Island in that game with 13 points also.
