Bahamas delivered a dominant performance on home soil, routing Jamaica 123-74 on July 4, 2026, at the Sir Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium in a Group B game of the World Cup 2027 American Qualifiers. After briefly trailing early, the hosts seized control with a 12-2 burst late in the first quarter, capped by a V.J. VJ Edgecombe (196-G-2005, college: Baylor) Jr. fast-break dunk that tied the game before Bahamas pulled ahead for good. The margin only grew from there, with Bahamas outscoring Jamaica in every period and closing with an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter that pushed the lead as high as 52 points.
VJ Edgecombe Jr. was electric, finishing with 26 points, nine rebounds and a game-high five steals, including a blistering stretch in the third quarter when he drained four three-pointers for 12 points in under four minutes. Dominick Bridgewater (178-PG-2000) added 23 points and five assists with just one turnover, Franco Miller Jr. (190-G-1999, college: FGCU) posted 18 points and six assists without a turnover, and Buddy Hield (193-G-1993, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Andrew Thelwell (190-G-2002, college: Iowa) led Jamaica with 24 points, but the visitors had no answer for the hosts' relentless pace and depth. |
