There was a minor upset when 6th ranked La Union (11-18) lost to eighth ranked Penarol (11-16) in Mar del Plata 76-90 on Friday. Penarol looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Power forward Franco Pennacchiotti (205-90) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 8 rebounds. Santiago Vaulet (194-98) contributed with 19 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Penarol's coach Carlos Romano used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Facundo Giorgi (203-85, college: FIU) answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Alejandro Konsztadt (191-89) added 11 points and 7 assists in the effort for La Union. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Penarol maintains eighth place with 11-16 record. Loser La Union keeps the sixth position with 18 games lost. Penarol will face league's second-placed Regatas Corrientes on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
