Regular Season Round 54: Penarol - Atenas 73-72

Tenth-ranked Atenas (10-24) gave a tough game to eighth ranked Penarol (14-20) in Mar del Plata. Penarol managed to secure only one-point victory 73-72. However their fans expected easier game. It was a good game for American Tony Mitchell (198-89, college: Alabama) who saved his team from a defeat with 17 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import guard Sundiata Gaines (185-86, college: Georgia) contributed with 10 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. International Leonardo Lema (204-98) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Matias Martinez (195-94) added 13 points in the effort for Atenas. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Penarol have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Comunicaciones. Atenas lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with 24 games lost. Penarol's next round opponent will be again Atenas (#10) in Cordoba.
