Regular Season Round 6: Quetzales - Escaramuzas 50-59

An interesting game for Escaramuzas (4-2) which played road game in Ciudad de Mexico against one of their biggest challengers Quetzales (2-4). Third ranked Escaramuzas managed to get a 9-point victory 59-50. Escaramuzas held Quetzales to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 32.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Escaramuzas forced 26 Quetzales turnovers. Quetzales were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for the former international forward Gladiana Avila (177-94) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. Elena Martinez contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Cuban forward Yulianne Rodriguez (185-82) replied with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Izchel Valdez added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Quetzales. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Escaramuzas have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader Lobas which they share with defeated Quetzales. Quetzales lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the third place with four games lost. Escaramuzas will face league's second-placed Aztks in Ciudad de Mexico in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Quetzales will play on the road against the league's leader Mieleras in Guanajuato and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
