Regular Season Round 9: Brillantes - Cocodrilos 68-71

Eighth-ranked Brillantes (1-7) made lots of trouble for second ranked Cocodrilos (7-1) in Caracas on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 71-68. However their fans expected much easier game. Cocodrilos outrebounded Brillantes 43-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86, agency: Pro Sports) who scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Four Cocodrilos players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Melvin Zambrano (193-95) who recorded 18 points and 6 rebounds and Neill Ojeda (190-91) added 9 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cocodrilos have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Trotamundos and Spartans. Brillantes lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Heroes. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Spartans.
