Regular Season Round 11: Malvin - Olimpia 89-85

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Olimpia (7-3) in Montevideo on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Malvin (7-4) 89-85. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Olimpia. They outrebounded Olimpia 36-25 including 30 on the defensive glass. Malvin looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized German center Kiril Wachsmann (203-84, college: Iona) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Argentinian Martin Cuello (193-93) helped adding 29 points. American guard Skyler Hogan (196-97, college: SEMO) responded with 17 points and the other American import forward Marvin Phillips (201-83, college: Claflin) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. Four Malvin and five Olimpia players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Malvin maintains third place with 7-4 record having just one point less than leader Olimpia. Olimpia at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. They share it with Nacional. Malvin's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Penarol.
