Regular Season Round 17: Diablos - Spartans 70-77

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Caracas: Spartans (#1) and Diablos (#4). Diablos were defeated at home 70-77 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The former international center Javinger Vargas (202-90) stepped up and scored 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international Jose Rodriguez (197-94) chipped in 6 points and 11 rebounds. International forward Anyelo Cisneros (198-97) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and swingman Morris Sierralta (190-87) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Spartans (13-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place. Diablos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third position with six games lost. They share it with Broncos. Spartans are looking forward to face Bucaneros (#7) in La Guaira in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Diablos' supporters also look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Llaneros.
