Regular Season Round 12: Olimpia - Capitol 94-92

The most exciting game of round 12 in the LUB took place in Montevideo. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked Capitol (5-6) to first ranked Olimpia (8-3) 94-92 on Friday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Olimpia forced 19 Capitol turnovers. Strangely Capitol outrebounded Olimpia 39-22 including 27 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was forward Nicolas Catala (196-91) who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Point guard Juan Viana (180-96) chipped in 23 points. Olimpia's coach Gerardo Jauri used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-95, college: UAFS) who recorded 29 points and his fellow American import center Paul Harrison (204-89, college: NGU) added 26 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Olimpia maintains first position with 8-3 record. Capitol lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with Aguada. Olimpia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Capitol's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Malvin.
