Regular Season Round 15: Marineras - Mieleras 54-70

Bottom-ranked Marineras (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 70-54 loss to second ranked Mieleras (13-2) in Puerto Vallarta. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Mieleras forced 21 Marineras turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Jaterra Bonds (170-92, college: Florida) who led the winners and scored 26 points and 7 steals. Her fellow American import forward Kayla Mobley (180-90, college: Clayton St.) accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Joselyne Padilla came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Mayra Gil (-3) added 14 points and 5 assists respectively for Marineras in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Mieleras. They used an opportunity after Aztks lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Marineras lost their fifteenth game in a row. They still close the standings with 15 games lost. Mieleras will have a break next round. Marineras will play again at home against the league's second-placed Mieleras (#2) and hope to get finally their first victory.
