Regular Season Round 3: Caballeros - Piratas 79-87

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Caballeros (1-1) in Ambato on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Piratas (2-0) 87-79. Strangely Caballeros outrebounded Piratas 51-35 including 36 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international swingman Luis Riascos (194-0) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Erick Mecias (184-3) helped adding 15 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Mairon Cuero (190-89) with 27 points and 9 rebounds and center Jordan Cardenas (206-98, college: FNU) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas are looking forward to face Santa Maria (#6) in the next round. Caballeros will play again against Piratas in Ibarra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
