Regular Season Round 17: Cearense - Brasilia 56-66

Bottom-ranked Cearense (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 66-56 loss to ninth ranked Brasilia (3-5) in Fortaleza on Wednesday evening. They also forced 20 Cearense turnovers and outrebounded them 46-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. Guard Gabriel Santos (185-1) stepped up and scored 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners and forward Carlos Silva (196-3) chipped in 8 points and 15 rebounds. Point guard Pedro Lobo (192-2) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and guard Joao Aguiar (183-2) scored 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Brasilia moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Praia. Cearense lost their eighth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost. Brasilia will meet higher ranked Minas (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cearense will play against Flamengo (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
