Date: September 18, 2021
There was no surprise in Matagalpa where 8th ranked Indigenas (2-9) were crushed by third ranked Brumas (8-3) 112-85 on Saturday. Brumas dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Indigenas' 54. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Indigenas' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brumas made 10 blocks. American Timothy Simmons (195-92, college: DBU) scored 31 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Leon Hampton (213-95, college: Stillman, agency: Epic Sports Consulting LLC) chipped in 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) during the contest. Hampton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Brumas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Dominican center Teodoro Romero with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 14 rebounds and Puerto Rican point guard Christian Lopez (183-95) scored 22 points and 5 rebounds (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brumas maintains third position with 8-3 record behind leader Real Esteli. Loser Indigenas keep the eighth place with nine games lost.
