Regular Season Round 7: Astros - Abejas 65-81

Rather predictable result in Guadalajara where first ranked Abejas (6-4) beat 3rd placed Astros (6-4) 81-65 on Saturday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Abejas outrebounded Astros 48-34 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American guard Michael Smith (193-95, college: CBU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Ryan Pearson (198-90, college: GMU, agency: Inception Sports) helped adding 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Abejas players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international guard Jorge Gutierrez (191-88, college: California) responded with 14 points and American guard Avry Holmes (185-94, college: Clemson) scored 11 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Abejas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-4 record, which they share with Libertadores and Astros. Abejas will meet at home Dorados (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Astros will play against Panteras and hope to secure a win.
