There was a change at the Paulista leadership position after last games. Round 17 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Sao Paulo (10-3). They were defeated by second ranked Vivo/Franca (10-3) 87-75 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sao Paulo. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Vivo/Franca looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-96) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and American guard David Jackson (190-82, college: Penn St.) chipped in 15 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Vivo/Franca's coach Helinho Garcia used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Power forward Alex Doria (205-97, college: St.Edward's) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) scored 21 points. Five Vivo/Franca and four Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. Vivo/Franca keeps a position of league leader, which they share with defeated Sao Paulo.
