Regular Season Round 8: Soles - Libertadores 108-74
Date: September 30, 2021
Everything could happen in Mexicali at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Soles and one of their biggest challengers Libertadores had identical 6-5 record. This time Soles used a home court advantage and smashed the opponent from Queretaro 108-74 on Thursday night. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Soles shot 64.6 percent from the field. Soles outrebounded Libertadores 42-17 including a 31-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Soles especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Libertadores' players. The winners were led by American-Argentinian guard Erik Thomas (195-95, college: New Orleans) who scored that evening 15 points and 8 rebounds and international guard Luke Martinez (190-90, college: Wyoming) supported him with 13 points and 8 assists. Five Soles players scored in double figures. Even 20 points by American Vander Blue (196-92, college: Marquette, agency: Shark Sports Management) did not help to save the game for Libertadores. His fellow American import guard Decensae White (198-88, college: SF State) added 8 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Soles have a solid four-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Abejas and Astros. Loser Libertadores keep the fourth place with six games lost. Soles will meet at home Halcones UV Xalapa (#4) in the next round. Libertadores will play against the league's second-placed Astros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
